Where Can I Find Shipping Containers for Myself?

April 18, 2019

Storage containers are used primarily for transporting goods either on a large cargo shipping boat or on tractor-trailers over thousands of miles. In some odd cases, they can also be recycled and used for semi-permanent storage and even construction into buildings and houses. When embarking on the search to find shipping containers, it’s important to consider a few things before making a purchase with a steep price tag.

There are a few characteristics of the shipping container you have to look into before you start to find shipping containers near you.

1. Size and Dimension

Shipping containers run between 20 and 40 feet long, but there are some available that can measure up to 48 feet long, if you’re willing to shell out the extra money for it. Then, you have to determine whether or not you want a high cube container that is 9 feet and 6 inches tall or a standard shipping container that is 8 feet and 6 inches tall.

2. Quality

There are three categories of quality when it comes to shipping containers. Before you start to find shipping containers, ask yourself how much you value what you will be putting in there. “A” grade shipping containers are nearly new or brand new and have little to no cosmetic damage or rust and are in the best condition. For shipping or storing items that are high value, consider this option.

“B” grade shipping containers aren’t as nice and sparkly as their “A” counterparts but will still get the job done. There are a few dings and dents here and there on the exterior and may have a couple of rust spots, but they usually sell for a competitive price while still protecting what you’re shipping.

“C” grade shipping containers are the lowest quality. They usually have plenty of rust spots and a considerable number of holes in them. If you’re shipping your containers across water or it rains while on a tractor-trailer, the product may be damaged in transit. “C” containers are an economic option but be careful not to put any product or goods at risk when going this route.

3. Doors

Do you want double doors or a single door on your shipping container? This really depends on how big the product you are transporting is. If it can’t fit through a single door, then opt to find shipping containers near you that open with two doors and not one. Now that you know what kind of shipping container you’re looking for, it’s time to search.
